Printing ballot paper for General Elections commences

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The printing of 17 million ballot papers for the General Elections commenced today, Government Printer Gangani Liyanage said.

She said the typesetting and other preparations were carried out during the last week and subsequently the official printing commenced today.

The date of holding the General Elections was confronted with ambiguity following the Fundamental Rights petitions filed in the Supreme Court challenging the fixing of General Elections date for June 20.

However, the seven FR petitions were dismissed by the Supreme Court today without hearing them.

The Elections Commission (EC) had earlier sent a print order to the Government Printer for the 17 million ballot papers.

Accordingly, the printing of ballot paper commenced following the today’s court order.
