Tour guides exempt from VAT for inbound tours

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Tour guides registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority will be exempt from VAT for inbound tours.

The government said it will come into effect from the 1st of April, this year.

Nearly 1,000 tour guides have registered with the Tourism Development Authority to provide services including the facilitation of inbound travel.

Several other measures are due to be taken promptly in line with requests made by those engaged in the tourism industry.

191,702 tourists had arrived in Sri Lanka in 2019, based on reports issued by the Tourism Development Authority.

The government said as a result an income of 3.724 billion US dollars was received during this period.
