(UTV | COLOMBO) -The Department of Railways says 33 trains will be in service from today.
General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando said the decision was taken to increase the number of journeys after 19,593 people registered to travel via trains this week.
Accordingly, 11 trains along the main line, 11 along the coastal line, six along the Kelani Valley line, three along the Puttalam line and two trains will operate along the Northern line this week.
The General Manager of Railways said only those commuting to work will be permitted to use such trains.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board said over 5,000 buses will operate this week.
Moreover, the National Transport Commission stated that 3,200 inter-provincial buses are also due to be added to the public transport service.
