Govt. medical equipment for COVID-19 exempt of taxes

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says medical and health equipment provided to the government, to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic, is exempt of taxes.

The Minister said a gazette notification in this regard has been issued. Accordingly, health and medical equipment to be provided to the Ministry of Health, the Health Department, the Tri-Forces and the Police and the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak and donations of such equipment are all exempt of taxes.

Minister Ranatunga added the goods are exempt of the Port and Airport Development Levy, Cess and Value Added Tax and all other taxes.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga added the tax concessions are in place for such provisions till the 31st of December adding that industrialists who have signed agreements with the Board of Investment will also receive this concession.

The Cabinet of Ministers also consented to a Cabinet Paper that was tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in this regard.
