“General Election is a must for democracy” – Gamini Lokuge

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Former State Minister Gamini Lokuge says in order to ensure democracy, the General Election must be held while adhering to health guidelines.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Lokuge said an election must be held when advised by health authorities in order to appoint public representatives to Parliament in order to uphold democracy.

The former State Minister added the elected Ministers will help in reaching decisions pertains to the income and expenses of the country including overall budget.

However Gamini Lokuge noted until then, the President is empowered through the Constitution to carry forward deeds.

The Former State Minister said they are now working towards facing the coronavirus pandemic successfully and requested the support of the Opposition in facing these issues, while empowering the people.
