CPC incurs Rs.45 billion loss due to COVID-19 pandemic

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation that incurred a loss of Rs.10.9 billion in 2019, has now incurred a loss of Rs.45 billion during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister today engaged in a round of talks with trade unions of the CPC and the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd. Senior officials had informed the Minister that the loss incurred during the past three months was a result of the depreciation of the rupee, the low demand for fuel and other concerns.

The Minister added in order to generate a higher income, institutions such as the CPC, the Customs, the Excise Department, the Inland Revenue Department, the Immigration and Emigration Department should work towards minimising wastage and corruption.
