Five websites hacked targeting Victory Day: CERT

(UTV | COLOMBO) – At least five local websites had been hacked into by a group of hackers this morning targeting the Victory Day commemorations, the Computer Emergency Readiness Team/Co-ordination Centre (CERT|CC) said.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, CERT|CC Information Security Engineer Ravindu Meegasmulla said these powerful cyber attacks had been a practice every year on May 18, the day the Sri Lankan Government militarily defeated the LTTE in 2009.

He said these hackers had hacked these web sites and left messages relating to the war in which the LTTE was defeated.

He said the investigations were carried out by the special team members from CERT, Ari force and several web hosting companies.

This team of experts has been appointed targeting this sequence of attacks which scheduled to happen every year, he said.

“Last year more than ten websites including Government websites were hacked on the same day but only five websites were hacked this year,” Mr Meegasmulla said.
