India’s Modi unveils £216bn support package

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a 20tn-rupee (£216bn; $266bn) support package for the country’s economy to help mitigate the damage caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

In a televised address to the nation, Modi said the crisis was also an opportunity for India to become self-reliant.

Details of the package – equivalent to about 10% of India’s GDP – are expected to be unveiled shortly.
