Cooley to helm animated “Transformers” prequel

(UTV | Colombo) – He won a Best Animated Film Oscar for “Toy Story 4,” now director Josh Cooley has reportedly been quietly hired to direct a new animated film dubbed a “big-scale Transformers theatrical prequel” for Hasbro’s entertainment studio eOne and Paramount.

The project is said to be an origin story that takes place on Cybertron, the planet from which the robots came, and the film revolves around the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (“Ant-Man and the Wasp”) penned the script for the film which is said to be separate from both the five main series films and the more well-regarded “Bumblebee” spin-off. Cooley is overseeing a final draft with the writers at present.

It’s thought a big-scale animated feature is easier than a live-action tentpole to get into production in the current age of social distancing. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are expected to produce.
