NIC system not strictly enforced during emergencies

(UTV | COVID-19) – Public who run out of essential items unknowingly and are unable to prepare meals for the day, will be exempted from the newly introduced the National Identity Card (NIC) system for districts in which the curfew is relaxed.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said the NIC system has been specifically introduced to enable the public, who do not have to report to work, to be able to purchase essential items for daily consumption.

He said however, in the event of people unknowingly running out of goods for the day, they will be exempted from the NIC system and will be allowed to step outside to purchase essential items.

DIG Ajith Rohana requested the public to follow the NIC system as much as possible in areas in which the Police curfew is relaxed.
