Video game sales hit 2020 record highs

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Digital video game spending reportedly hit a record high globally in March as consumers everywhere turned to gaming to deal with the self-isolation and social distancing of our modern times.

Revenue topped $10 billion last month, the highest-ever total for a single month and an 11% increase year-over-year according to Nielsen’s SuperData.

Nintendo’s “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” “Doom Eternal” and “Call of Duty: Warzone” have benefited the most from the lockdown with millions of digital copies of each title sold.

Spending on premium console (up 64%) and PC games (up 56%) rose sharply in March, up by 64% month-to-month (from $883 million to $1.5 billion) and 56% ($363 million to $567 million) respectively.
