Dwayne Johnson sets HBO wrestling show

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Dwayne Johnson, “Insecure” star Issa Rae, and powerhouse producer Dany Garcia are all set to executive produce a currently in development HBO half-hour series about the creation of a backyard wrestling promotion.

“Tre Cnt” (a.k.a. “Tre Count”) hails from writer Mohamad El Masri and focuses on Cassius Jones, a young dock worker and struggling pro-wrestler who uses inherited life-insurance money for start-up cash and a deed from his grandfather to start a hip-hop centric backyard wrestling empire in Houston’s Third Ward (a.k.a. The Tre) with the help of his working-class family, neighbors, and friends.

Dave Becky, Tom Lassally, Jonathan Berry, Hiram Garcia, Montrel McKay, El Masri and Judah Miller will also executive produce with Miller serving as showrunner. Johnson and Garcia previously worked with HBO on the Johnson-led series “Ballers” which wrapped up its five season run last year.
