PETA pushing for Thor to go vegan

(UTV | Colombo) – Animal rights activists PETA have reportedly sent a letter to filmmaker Taika Waititi strongly suggesting that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor go beyond adopting a plant-based diet and go full vegan for the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder” from Marvel Studios.

Waititi was recently asked if the Thor character would retain the extra weight he piled on in “Avengers: Endgame,” the new weight due to Thor self-medicating his depression with excess food and alcohol consumption over the course of several years.

That has led to the obvious question of how Waititi’s new film will handle the change. Losing weight is a much harder and longer process than gaining it, though Thor is an Asgardian so it’s not clear how his metabolism works. Waititi responded to the question with a “[we] haven’t figured that out” yet statement at the time.

PETA has decided to get ahead of the curve, sending a letter in response to those comments. They say that Hemsworth adopted a vegan lifestyle during the filming of the first “Thor” movie and “The Avengers” and they claim such a diet would work wonders with getting Thor back to his previous physique, along with being a “natural extension of his compassion for life on Earth” and reducing his carbon footprint.

Just how far would Thor go? No meat, no milk and no honey? No wearing leather? It’s not clear if Waititi intends to take the pitch seriously at this point. Anywhere from 5-12% of the populations of first world nations like the US, UK, Canada and Australia adopt a primarily vegetarian diet, though only 1-3% take the strict ‘vegan’ route.

“Thor: Love and Thunder” is currently targeting a February 18th 2022 release.
