The Special Dedicated Economic Centers in Dambulla, Thambuththegama, Nuwaraeliya, Keppetipola and Embilipitiya would be closed for the merchants until further notice as a special mechanism has been formulated to provide vegetables and fruits to all divisional secretariat divisions.
The provision of agrarian products would be made by way of coordination the Committees on providing essential food items at the Divisional Secretariat levels and the Coordinating Centres at the Dedicated Economic Centres via phone and other electronic communication methods.
The decision was reached at the Presidential Task Force headed by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Supplying Essential Goods, under the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa after the health sectors pointed out that there is a risk of spreading COVID 19 at Dedicated Economic Centres as large crowds of farmers and businessmen thronged there.
Hence according to the new method Committees on providing essential food items at the Divisional Secretariat levels have to get a list of necessary items for the registered merchants in their divisions and inform the Coordinating Centres at the Dedicated Economic Centres before 10 am each day. The Dedicated Economic Centres would inform the possibility of providing the items back before 2 pm.
Then the items would be transported to the Divisional Secretariats where the registered merchants could unload them and take them away.
Hence the customers would get many benefits including the accessibility of new items at low prices.
