Over 1000 suspects were arrested for violating the islandwide Police curfew within the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 a.m. today.
An islandwide Police curfew has been in effect since 20 March to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
The Police said 1093 suspects were arrested for violating the curfew from 06.00 a.m. yesterday (31) to 06.00 a.m. today (01).
They said 310 vehicles were also seized and placed under Police custody during this period.
Meanwhile, over 200 suspects were arrested on charges of violating the islandwide Police curfew in six Districts within the last 6 hours ending at 12.00 p.m today.
The Police said 288 persons were arrested for violating the curfew in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Puttalam, Kandy and Jaffna Districts today.

A total of 8739 suspects have been arrested on charges of violating the curfew since its implementation on 20 March 2020.
The Police said 2149 vehicles, including motorcycles and three-wheelers were also seized during this period.
The Police have announced that those found to be violating the Police curfew by traveling in vehicles or gallivanting on roads without a valid curfew pass will be arrested without a warrant.
The suspects will be produced in court and will either be imprisoned or a fine will be imposed, they added.
