Catholic Church cancels Good Friday and Easter Sunday services

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Catholic Church has decided to cancel the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services as well as other services during the Holy Week.

The Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, speaking during a Sunday service broadcast on television, said that Holy Week services will be broadcast on local television.

“All the special services of the Holy Week will be telecast over the television services. That is Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday,” he said.

He said that the Catholic community will be able to take part in the services from home.

The Catholic Church said that as a result of the current situation in the country it has been decided not to congregate in large numbers at any Church.
