(UTV|COLOMBO) – Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday announced that all gatherings and meetings of his party has been cancelled to prevent the spread of COVID -19.
Mr. Premadasa in his facebook post said this decision was taken to prevent the spreading of virus. “We have taken this measure for the betterment of the people,” he said.
Mr. Premadasa reminded that he cautioned the government when the first patient was found in Sri Lanka a month ago.
Meanwhile, former MP Hirunika Premachandra told a press conference that general election should be postponed given the current situation. “One wonders as to what measures the government had taken on its own other than the role played by the military to prevent the disease from spreading.
“Any doctor could cure the disease but what is important is the prevention. What has the government done about it,” she questioned.
Also, former MP S. M. Marikar questioned as to whether the spreading of the virus could be stopped by declaring one day as a public Bank and mercantile holiday. “Is anyone not going to catch COVID- 19 on Tuesday,” he questioned.
