450 Lankans who reached BIA to be quarantined

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Duty Officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport says 450 Sri Lankans who arrived in the island from South Korea, Italy and Iran have been directed to be quarantined as of 8 this morning, in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 or the coronavirus in the country.

The Lankans were escorted to the quarantine facilities located at the temporary quarantine centres at the Batticaloa Campus and Kandakadu, Polonnaruwa, by the Sri Lanka Army via 17 buses.

The Lankans did not arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport onboard direct flights.

They had arrived in the island last night onboard flights from Dubai, Qatar, Singapore and Thailand.

Our correspondent said another 150 passengers are due to be directed to be quarantined.

He said several Lankans had behaved in an unruly manner upon arrival.
