UNP to officially contest all 22 districts

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United National Party has officially informed that it will contest for all 22 electoral districts across the Island.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, the UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said he has informed the Election Commission of the UNP’s decision in this regard in writing.

Accordingly he said the UNP will contest the election separately under the symbol of the Elephant.

Meanwhile speaking the General Secretary of the Sajith Premadasa led Samagi Jana Balawegaya Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the alliance will surely face the parliamentary polls without fail.

He said the alliance hopes to contest the election under the symbol of the Telephone.

He said around 90% of UNP MPs, organizers and provincial council members are contesting the election through the alliance.

He further noted that in the event that a common symbol cannot be agreed upon then the symbol of the telephone will be used instead.
