‘Irregular appointments at State Banks must end’

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union has requested the President and Prime Minister to suspend the irregular appointments of General Managers to State Banks.

In a letter addressed to the Head of State and Premier, the Union said the present administration is violating the existing procedure when appointing individuals to the post of General Manager of State Banks.

It has been tradition to appoint the most senior Deputy General Manager or most senior Deputy Manager to the post of General Manager, with the approval of the Board of Directors and after informing the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance.

The Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union charged the present government has deviated from the standard procedure and made the post of General Manager of State Banks a political appointment.

The Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union further said employees of several State Banks have commenced protests against the government’s actions, adding that the Union also supports the protests in this regard.
