Economic progression was ensured-Ranil W

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe says regardless of the challenges and shortcomings of the former government, economically the country reached progression.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the UNP office in Matara Wickremesinghe said concessions ensured by the former government for the apparel and fisheries industries must be protected.

Wickremesinghe said the apparel and fisheries industries received many concessions, adding that the government must ensure that factories do not close.

He noted that during the scare of the coronavirus, the government must be vigilant as it could have an impact on industries.

Ranil Wickremesinghe added that during the most difficult times in 2015 and 2016, during floods and droughts, the then government carried the economy.

He stated that the government has many shortcomings, couldn’t provide fertiliser subsidies, and even lost the Local Authorities Election as a result.

The Former Premier claimed that as a coalition government with the country’s two main political parties, no matter what issues arose the government forged ahead.

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe added the good governance government ensured foreign loan management during its term.

Ranil Wickremesinghe also claimed that fuel prices in the world market have dropped considerably and urged the government to grant concessions to the public.
