Income has dropped by Rs.14 billion-Mangala

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Minister of Finance Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera says the country’s income has dropped by Rs.14 billion in January 2020 compared to January 2019.

Speaking at a media briefing in Matara the MP said the economy is deteriorating daily.

MP Samaraweera added that all sectors in the country will be restored if the people grant the alliance a mandate at the upcoming General Election.

The MP noted this is the beginning of the downfall of the economy.

He claimed that according to the Inland Revenue Department income in January 2020 has dropped by Rs.14 billion compared to January 2019.

However the Parliamentarian added that the Opposition will not be disheartened in the wake of defeat, and stated that under a strong alliance they will establish a government at the General Election.

He stated that if the Samagi Jana Balawegaya can win a good number of seats, they can achieve this feat.

MP Mangala Samaraweera added the government is engaged in efforts to deceive the public by signing the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement by amendment a few words.

MP Samaraweera said the MCC agreement, was portrayed to be dangerous, with the then government claiming the country would be divided if the agreement was signed.

He said they deceived the people, and have recently stated that the agreement isn’t bad after all and that it will be signed with a few amendments.

The MP said the agreement needs no amendment, adding that they discussed the MCC agreement for a long time.

The Parliamentarian stated that this is a large fund disbursed by the US after the Mahaweli Development Project.
