(UTV | COLOMBO) – Chairman of the Elections Commission (EC) Mahinda Deshapriya has issued directives to the media on whom to contact for news content.
The Commission has requested Heads of the electronic and print media and their web and social media pages to directly contact 2 assigned Officers for any information from the Commission.
Issuing a letter addressed to the Heads and the responsible positions of the media organisations, stated that it has been observed that the traditional media institutions and the web and social media pages maintained by them have been publishing electoral-process related statements citing that they were made by a Senior Official or a Spokesperson of the Commission.
Deshapriya stressed that only Director Planning Channa P. De Silva and Co-coordinating Secretary Rizan Manzil A. Hameed will be responding to media in Sinhala and Tamil or English medium respectively.
He also told media organisations to mention the name of the Chairman, members or the Commissioner – General of the Election Commission if they are being quoted for any content published by the media.
