‘Contesting under heart symbol not discussed’

(UTV|COLOMBO) -The faction of Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says discussions were not held to use the symbol of the heart as the symbol of the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’.

Speaking at a media briefing today Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said discussions were held over using the symbol of the elephant or the swan.

He said Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa discussed a number of issues, adding the group is hopeful that all decisions through discussions, will be ratified by the UNP Working Committee tomorrow.

He stressed that such resolution will help successfully face the upcoming General Election.

Alawathuwala said the group is holding discussions to use either the Elephant or the Swan symbol at the next election, adding they wish to contest as a united force.

MP Alawathuwala on a separate note said those involved in the controversial Treasury bond transactions prior to and after 2015 must be brought to book.

The MP said they will hold the debate on the Forensic Audit Report on the Central Bank Bond issuances in Parliament today and tomorrow, adding this will help shed light on the real issues and bring the perpetrators before the scrutiny of the public.
