Army beat Air Force 28-13 in Ratmalana

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Army registered its second win of the season, after defeating Air Force Sports Club 28-13 in a hard-fought Inter-Club Rugby League tournament encounter at Ratmalana last evening.

The soldiers were made to work hard to secure the win as both teams tussled in a low scoring opening half.

Madusanka Chandrasekara’s try was the difference between the teams in the first 40 minutes of the game after the two fly-halves exchanged three penalties.

Army had a slender 08-06 lead at lemons.

Army’s foreign recruit Tomasi Caqusa extended the lead for the visitors at the start of the second half through a decisive try.

Air Force centre Tuteovuya James then evened out Army’s second half try in the third quarter but the visitors were decisive in their attacking moves.

Ashan Bandara and Aravinda Karunarathna then scored tries as Army secured a deserved bonus point win at the Ratmalana Air Force base.

Despite today’s outcome both Army and Air Force remain fifth and eight respectively in the points table.

Tomorrow all roads will lead to Longdon Place as arch-rivals CR & FC and Havelock Sports Club will lock-horns in a top four clash.

The game is slated to get underway at 1615.
