33 Lankans who arrived from Wuhan sent to Diyatalawa

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The 33 Sri Lankans who arrived in the country this morning from the coronavirus-affected Wuhan, China have been transported to the Diyatalawa Army Base Hospital.

The Sri Lanka Army in a statement said members of the Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Response Squadron qualified to deal with biological or chemical emergencies received the group of Sri Lankans at the airport this morning.

The group will now be kept in isolation for a period of 14 days within the two sanatorium-type buildings established at the Diyatalawa Army Base Hospital under close supervision of medical consultants, epidemiologists and other staffers.

The statement noted that the special unit with 32 rooms in both sealed new dormitories are furnished with basic necessities, and are equipped with medical tools, Wi-Fi facilities, thermometers and is fit for medically sound quarantine purposes.

The Army also requested that the Lankan students being housed in the camp to cooperate with medical and other state authorities to address concerns related to the coronavirus.

Sri Lanka Army has also confirmed that four children were also part of the group of 33 arrived in the country this morning from Wuhan, China.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal, Director of Media at the Army Headquarters Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe said a total of 18 females who arrived from Wuhan, China were also sent to the Diyatalawa camp.

Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe said a number of tests will be done during their stay at the camp adding that all facilities will be provided to those who will be kept in isolation.

A Sri Lankan Airlines aircraft carrying students and their family members, that departed from Wuhan, China, earlier today, landed at the Mattala International Airport at around 7.45am.
