“Must change UNP image to win General Election” -Sarath Fonseka

(UTV|COLOMBO)  – United National Party Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says the image of UNP should be transformed in order to win the upcoming General Election.

Speaking at an event in Colombo, MP Fonseka said the party should be further strengthened to defeat the incumbent government at the next election.

He said the previous administration ignored the UNP members and also failed to provide job opportunities to party supporters which led to the Presidential Election defeat.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka claimed that the UNP should introduce a strong programme and take forward the party.

Speaking at the event MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said the government is attempting to sign the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement and increase taxes following the General Election.

He said all development projects have been suspended until August and the government is also faced with difficulties to pay salaries of state sector employees.

The former Minister said the present government has not formulated a suitable economic development programme to resolve the existing issues.

Addressing the event MP Mano Ganesan said the present government continues to betray its mandate on a daily basis.

He said the present administration won the last election by deceiving the public.

MP Ganesan noted that the government should focus on dealing with the issues faced by the public instead of focussing on matters relating to other political parties.

He said constituent parties of the United National Front will form a strong alliance and contest the upcoming Parliamentary Election.
