Bail for Pujith & Hemasiri to be considered in Feb.

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Colombo High Court today announced the bail applications filed by former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, who is on mandatory leave, will be taken up for consideration on the 10th of February.

The order was issued by the bench comprising of Judges Manjula Thilakaratne and Adithya Patabendige.

Preliminary objections were filed against the bail applications by the Attorney General today.

The High Court informed the attorneys representing IGP Pujith Jayasundara and Hemasiri Fernando that counter objections can be filed on the 10th of February.

Meanwhile the Attorney General informed Court that legal proceedings will continue against the other defendants in the case pertaining to the DA Rajapaksa Museum in Weeraketiya.

Accordingly State Counsel Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peeris representing the Attorney General informed the Permanent High Court-at-Bar that legal proceedings will continue against the remaining defendants.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was released from the case filed over the misappropriation of over Rs.33 million during the construction of the Museum.

President Rajapaksa was released from the case as legal proceedings cannot continue against the Head of State according to the Constitution.

The case will be taken up for hearing once again on the 10th of March.
