Two Sri Lankans arrested in Mumbai with gold

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai customs arrested two Sri Lankans for smuggling gold bars concealed in their rectum.

As per details shared with India Today one of the accused identified as Jameer Abdul Wahid (42) arrived from Dubai by the Emirates Airlines flight at Mumbai airport.

Police said that upon searching him, they recovered 13 gold bars weighing about 1,516 grams worth Rs 45.48 lakh. The said gold bars were hidden in the rectum of his body.

Another accused have been identified as Althaf Sahul Hameed (48), he too held a Sri Lankan passport and arrived from Dubai by the Emirates Airlines flight.

The police recovered 12 gold bars weighing around 1,399 grams and worth Rs 41.97 lakh.

“Both the passenger belong to the Puthalam district in Sri Lanka. They were frequent fliers to India and are in trading activities in textile material, ready made garments and cosmetics,” said an official.

In a similar incident on Friday night, Mumbai Customs intercepted a passenger Sayed Noorulameen (26), a resident of Bhatkal, Karnataka who had arrived from Dubai by Gulf Airways flight.

Police said that he was hiding gold in one hand operated Juicer.

“On breaking the Juicer machine, two pieces of cylindrical gold rods weighing 567 grams valued at Rs 17 Lakhs concealed in the hollow portion of the vertical column fixed to the base of juicer machine were recovered,” added the officer.
