Illegal liquor amounting to Rs. 2 million raided

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Special Unit functioning under the Ministry of Finance to raid illegal liquor on Tuesday (11) raided a stock foreign liquor imported illegally to the country. Department of Excise and the Department of Customs and the Police Special Tasks Force joined the raid.

The stock of liquor valued over Rs. 2 million was found in a container at Orugodawatte yard, which was imported from Italy.

The Chief of the Special Raid Unit, Wing Commander Ravi Jayasinghe said that they are investigating as to how long this racket has been going on and how much of money has been lost to the government.

According to him, they will be continuing raids into such incidents specially during the festive season.
