Japan and Sri Lanka will look to further boost the bilateral relationship

(UDHAYAM, TOKYO) – Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is in Japan on an official visit, has met with the President of Sri Lanka – Japan Parliament Friendship Association Wataru Takeshita on Tuesday (11).

During the meeting, Mr. Takeshita has said that Japan and Sri Lanka will look to further boost the decades-long bilateral relationship between the two countries. He further said that Japan would lend their fullest support for Sri Lanka’s development activities.

The Sri Lankan Premier emphasized the importance of the discussion with the Sri Lanka-Japan Parliament Friendship Association, particularly considering that this year marks the 70th year of the Sri Lankan Parliament.

Meeting Japanese parliamentarian Yuko Obuchi, daughter of former Prime Minister of Japan Keizo Obuchi, the Premier expressed appreciation for the support displayed towards Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka-Japan Parliament Friendship Association, from the era of her father.

The Prime Minister and the delegation also attended a business forum conducted by the Japan External Trade Organization. The Premier spoke on Sri Lanka’s point of view of the global community and the importance of Japan.
