(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Immigration and Refugee Board in Canada has ordered the deportation of a Sri Lankan man accused killing his wife, Radio Canada reported.
Sivaloganathan Thanabalasingam can however file an appeal against the order, a process which could take up to four years.
The Commission has also ruled that Thanabalasingam will remain in custody, at least until the reassessment of his case on Thursday.
Counsel for Sivaloganathan Thanabalasingam argued that the ongoing proceedings could last up to four years. The lawyer added that his client’s family was in Canada and that he is not likely to flee.
He was arrested in August 2012 after Anuja Baskaran’s body was found in their apartment in the Ahuntsic neighborhood of Montreal. The woman in her twenties had been stabbed at the throat many times.
