Differently-abled soldiers end Satyagraha campaign

(UTV|COLOMBO) -The Satyagraha campaign of differently-abled soldiers, which entered its 20th day, ended opposite the Fort Railway Station today (Sept 30).

The sit-down had been called off after opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and United National Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa had met with the protesters this morning.

U.D. Wasantha, President of the Movement to Protect the Rights of War Heroes said that they had ended the Satyagraha campaign after considering the promises made towards resolving their issues.

The soldiers had been carrying out the protest demanding the government continues to pay their salaries even after their retirement at the age of 55.
