Beedi leaves wrapped in 34 parcels discovered

(UTV|COLOMBO) – 1243.3kg of Beedi leaves wrapped in 34 parcels were recovered by the Navy during patrols carried out in Southbar and Oluthuduwai areas in Mannar.

Accordingly, a suspicious Bolero cab parked at the beach was observed during a foot patrol carried out by North Central Naval Command in Southbar beach area and by further search 12 parcels were recovered. These parcels contained 368.4kg of Beedi leaves.

Further, on the same day, 874.9kg of Beedi leaves packed as 22 parcels which had washed ashore to Oluthuwai beach in Mannar were also recovered by North Central Naval Command. The recovered hauls of Beedi leaves and the Bolero cab are due to be handed over to Customs office-Jaffna for onward action.

Accordingly, more than 35 tons of Beedi leaves have been recovered during the raids conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy, within this year.
