Executive Officers’ protest: Passport one day and normal services suspended

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Emigration and Immigration Department yesterday suspended the one day and normal services of issuing passports due to the strike by the Government Service Executive Officers, an Emigration senior official said.

Speaking  to a prominent online news portal, Department’s Assistant Controller B. G. G. Milinda said due to lack of executive officers, the department had decided to suspend both services.

“Striking workers demonstrated in front of the office crippling the routine duties of the department. There were no executive officers to work since they joined the trade union action,” he said.

Only the normal service of issuing passports had been suspended on Monday (23) due to the strike.  The Government service executive officers had launched an indefinite strike from September 18 owing to salary anomalies.
