President discusses expansion of trade with Togolese counterpart

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena held discussions with Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé on expanding trade and investment between the two countries at his office, on Wednesday.

President Sirisena said the Togolese President’s visit to Sri Lanka was a great boost to the economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries.

Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé said he would invite Sri Lankan businessmen and investors for new investment opportunities in Togo during a meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

He added that steps would also be taken to provide more facilities to the businessmen in the garment industry.

President Sirisena briefed his Togolese counterpart on the successful measures taken by the government and the security forces within a short period of time to combat the terrorism that surfaced with the Easter attacks.

The Togolese President said he expects to discuss Sri Lanka’s progress in tackling terrorism at the International Terrorism Conference which is to begin in Togo, next Saturday. President Sirisena also presented a special memento to President Gnassingbé.

Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Arjuna Ranatunga, and Ranjith Aluvihare; as well as Secretary to the President, Udaya R. Seneviratne, and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ravinatha Aryasinha; were also present at the event.
