Foreign Ministry sends Arjuna Mahendran extradition docs to Singapore HC

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Foreign Ministry has forwarded the 21,000-page extradition documents concerning former central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, the Attorney General (AG)’s Department said.

State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, Co-ordinating Secretary to the AG noted that this request would be sent to the Singaporean Foreign Affairs Ministry for relevant action.

These documents which had been signed by President Maithripala Sirisena, had been handed over to the Foreign and Defence Ministries by the AG’s Department.

Mahendran, a main suspect accused of causing massive losses to the government by illegally issuing treasury bonds of the central bank in 2015, has been evading arrest in Singapore in the backdrop of court warrants and an INTERPOL alert issued for his arrest.
