Heavy rain and gusty winds expected across Sri Lanka

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Aside from the heavy rain, the Department of Meteorology today (29) warned that gusty wind conditions will prevail over most of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the prevailing showery condition in South-Western part of the island is expected to enhance to some extent until tomorrow (30), while fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kilometres per hour are also likely over the island.

Furthermore, showers or thundershowers will occur today at times in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and North-Western Provinces.

Heavy falls about 100 – 150 millimetres are also likely at some places particularly in Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle and Matara Districts, and fairly heavy falls above 50 millimetres are likely at some places in Kurunegala and Kandy Districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in Anuradhapura, Mannar and Jaffna, the Meteorology Department stated, adding that showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva and Eastern Provinces and in Polonnaruwa District after 2.00 this evening.
