Inflation increases to 2.2% in July 2019

(UTv|COLOMBO) – The Department of Census and Statistics says Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in July 2019 determined under the National Consumer Price Index marginally increased to 2.2 percent from 2.1 percent recorded in June on a year-on-year basis.

The Index for all items for the month of July 2019 increased to 129.4 from 129.2 in June.

The increase in the index point by 0.17 percent was due to the expenditure value increase of food items by 0.11 percent and expenditure value increase of non-food items by 0.07 percent.

The Year-on-Year inflation of food group has increased from ‐2.9 percent in June 2019 to ‐2.5 percent in July 2019 and that of non‐food group has decreased from 6.2 percent to 6.1 percent during this month.

The moving average inflation for the month of July 2019 was 1.9 percent.

The corresponding rate for the month of June 2019 was 2.0 percent.
