Four Indian fishers apprehended by Navy for poaching in Lankan waters

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 4 Indian fishermen with their dhow who engaged in illegal fishing, in Sri Lankan territorial waters yesterday (21).

The Indian poachers were apprehended by the Northern Naval Command during a patrol carried out in the Northern seas. These Indian fishers and the dhow are due to be handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Jaffna for onward legal action.

The apprehended fishers are in the ages between 25-35.

As a result of frequent patrol carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy in order to protect the fish and marine resources belongs to Sri Lanka, illegal activities through sea routes have been reduced and SL Navy is vigilant on such activities round the clock.
