Supreme Court dismisses 3 ‘Death Penalty’ petitions

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Supreme Court has dismissed the three petitions on the Bill titled ‘Abolition of the Death Penalty’ filed at the Supreme Court stating that it had no jurisdiction to entertain any petition to declare that a Bill is consistent with the Constitution in accordance with the Article 120 of the Constitution said Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri making the Speaker’s Announcement in Parliament yesterday in respect of the petitions filed before the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121(1) of the Constitution.

He also ordered that the determination of the Supreme Court be printed in the Official Report of proceedings.
