UNP is not in a hurry to nominate its Candidate

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Backbenchers of the United National Party say the UNP is in no hurry to nominate its Presidential Candidate.

Speaking during a media briefing at Temple Trees, Parliamentarian Chandima Gamage said although two factions have named their candidates, the UNP will unveil its candidate at an appropriate time.

He said the UNP will name its Presidential Candidate with the blessings of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister Sajith Premadasa.

The MP noted that the present administration is not disregarding its duties as a government and is focused on development initiatives.

MP Gamage added the government was focused on serving the people and not merely engaged in politics.

The MP stated the party had noticed at previous elections, the early announcement had only led to the defeat of candidates.
