(UTV|COLOMBO) – Parliament’s Committee on Public Accounts will open its sittings to the media from tomorrow.
A ceremony to mark the opening of the sittings to the media will be presided over by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and COPA Chairman Lasantha Alagiyawanna.
The officials of the Government Printing Department and the Western Provincial Council have been summoned before the COPA on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. The COPA will examine the National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministry on Friday.
A total of 837 public institutions come under the COPA’s purview including all the Ministries, Departments, Provincial Councils, Local Authorities, District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats. The task of the COPA is to probe their managerial efficiency and financial discipline based on the Auditor General’s reports and observations.
The sittings of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) was opened to the media earlier this month.
