TNA not happy over Shavendra’s appointment

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) yesterday (19) expressed its disapproval of the appointment of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as the new Army Commander.

“President Maithripala Sirisena’s appointment of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, an individual who stands accused of grave crimes, as Army Commander is a serious affront to the Tamil People. We are deeply dismayed by this appointment,” TNA Spokesperson, Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran said in a Twitter message.

President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces handed over the letter of appointment of the 23rd Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the President’s Secretariat yesterday.
