(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government aims to make the Vanni District one of most developed zones in the country within 5-years, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated.
He made this remarks at an event held at the Vavuniya District Hospital.
Speaking at the event in Vavuniya yesterday (14), Wickremesinghe stressed that development projects undertaken by the Government in the Vanni District will be taken forward. He said that special steps will be taken in the near future to take the projects forward.
The newly built Accident Ward and Emergency Unit of the Hospital was declared open under the patronage of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Co-operative Development, Vocational Training and Skills Development Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne, and Dutch Deputy Ambassador in Sri Lanka were also present at the event.
The cost borne for the project was Rs. 150 million.
Meanwhile, the Premier laid foundation stone for the proposed Cardiology and Renal Diseases Treatment Unit. The Government of Netherlands funds Rs. 600 million to construct the new Unit.
