Renovated BIA run-way to be opened on April 6

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The renovated run-way of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will be opened on 6th April, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said.

The run-way was renovated at a cost of USD 50 million. The width of the run-way has been increased from 60 meters to 75 meters with the renovation. This will enable to operate A-380 air buses as well.

The run-away has been renovated using the Netherland technology and the lighting system uses LED bulbs, which helps to carry out aviation operations even during adverse climatic conditions. It will also save about 80 percent of power, the authorities emphasized.

The opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and the Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe. UL-1162 purchased recently will be the first fight to land on the renovated run-way.
