Public urged to stay safe with windy and wet conditions on the way

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology urged the public to take heed of weather warnings and public safety messages as there is a possibility for sudden increase of wind speed in several areas today (12).

The Meteorology Department forecasted that there is a possibility for sudden increase of wind speed up to 50 – 60 kilometres per hour in North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provinces, and 40 – 50 kilometres per hour in North-Central Province and in Trincomalee District.

Furthermore, showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western Provinces today, while light showers are expected in Mannar, Jaffna, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura Districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershower expected at a few places in Uva Province after 2.00 this evening, the Meteorology Department stated, adding that fairly heavy falls above 50 millimetres are also likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, and in Galle and Matara Districts.
