Sri Lanka, Gujarat to enhance bilateral trade

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Austin Fernando and the Development Strategies & International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama met the Indian Business Community at a Sri Lanka Business and Investment Forum held at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ahmedabad. The discussion centred on ways business could be developed between Gujarat and Sri Lanka.

Minister Samarawickrama explained how business can be established between the two countries, and businesspersons shared their experiences in establishing business with Sri Lanka. The Minister and the Officials responded to queries by the participants on establishing business with Sri Lanka. Four Chief Executive Officers of Indian Companies that have connected business with Sri Lanka shared their experiences, which enabled interested parties to benefit from their firsthand experiences.

Board of Investment Chairman Mangala Yapa, Sri Lanka’s Consul General in Mumbai Chamari Rodrigo and Minister (Commercial) of the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi Upekkha Samarathunga were present.

Minister Malik Samarawickrama and High Commissioner Austin Fernando also met Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani and held constructive discussions on establishing and expanding Sri Lanka-Gujarat business investments and connections. Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai Chamari Rodrigo and officials from the Chief Minister Rupani’s Office were present.
