“No evidence that Dr. Shafi had illegal wealth” – CID Director

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekera stated that the CID has so far found no evidence to support that Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Shafi had amassed wealth in an illegal manner.

He told the media at a press briefing held at the CID yesterday (08) that Dr. Shafi has explained how he had earned funds and that he had been duly paying income tax.

Abeysekera stressed that the investigations pertaining to Rs. 90 million worth of assets of Dr. Shafi were being carried out in coordination with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
