President expresses deepest condolences on the demise of Mahanayaka Thero

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena expressed his deepest condolences on the demise of the Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Davuldena Sri Gnanissara Thero.

According to the President’s Media Division, the President has given instructions to hold the late Thero’s cremation ceremony with full state honors. It will be held on Thursday (6th April) afternoon at the Independence Square, Colombo.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Buddha Sasana and other relevant officials have been instructed by the President to continuously look into the preparation works of the cremation ceremony.

The President has also instructed to bear all the expenses of the cremation ceremony by the Government. A special committee has also been appointed in this regard.
